I know I discuss a lot about topical treatments for hair care and how to treat certain hair ailments. But today I am going to talk about the importance of what we put into our bodies that can help with preventing hair loss.
These foods can have such an impact on our body and affect our hair, skin, digestion and so much more.
Eating unhealthy can have such a negative impact on our hair that we may not even realize it. Not to mention make us not feel like our best selves.
So these are some foods that can help you change the direction of your hair. These foods are not only good for your hair but health in general.
pin this for later
LEAFY GREENS
Leafy greens are so great for your body, they provide vitamins that will help with hair loss. Vitamins such as iron, magnesium, omega 3 acids, calcium and potassium.
They also contain vitamin C, beta carotene, vitamin A and folate which are also amazing for your hair.
These are some leafy greens that are a really good choice:

Adding some of these foods to your diet can make a difference in your hair. And adding leafy greens are so easy to do, you can add it into almost anything you’re cooking for a little extra benefits. Such as Curries, sandwiches, salads or even just a side dish with what you’ve already made.
NUTS AND SEEDS
Nuts and seeds are a great addition to your diet not only do they provide protein but they are also good for healthy fats or Omega 3 fatty acids.
Nuts and seeds can also provide vitamin e, selenium, zinc and B5 depending on which seeds you use.
These are some nuts and seeds that provide good nutrients:
- Sunflower Seeds
- Almonds
- Flax Seeds
- Chia Seeds
- Walnuts
These are just a few of the nuts and seeds that give us those extra nutrients, there are many more that you can find, that will be nutrient packed too.
FISH
This is a great source of Omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin d. Omega 3 fatty acids are a great addition to your diet not only for hair loss but it can also help you be disease free and help with inflammation. Check out my post on inflammation here.
Here are some fishes that are great for these nutrients:
- Salmon
- Herring
- Mackerel
- Tuna
So adding these foods to your diet will not only help with your hair but with your overall health.
OATMEAL
This is a really good food for your overall health. Oatmeal is high in fiber which helps your digestion. If your body is working well your hair and skin will flourish.
Oatmeal is also great for regulating your body’s insulin levels, sometimes in females insulin resistance can cause hair loss.
So this with a balanced diet can help regulate those insulin levels.
Oatmeal is also really great for digestion, which helps your gut health. And gut health is an important part of preventing hair loss.
EGGS
Eggs are full of nutrients, vitamins and minerals which are great for stopping hair loss.
They contain protein, selenium, zinc and biotin. Protein is very important for preventing hair loss, your hair is mostly made up of proteins so if your diet is lacking in protein this can cause hair loss.
Biotin is a very popular supplement that I know is used for hair growth, but it is important to consume biotin in a natural form to prevent hair loss.
Being deficient in either biotin or protein can cause hair loss. So make sure you eat your eggs!
RED BELL PEPPERS
Red bell peppers are packed with vitamin c, which helps with hair growth. This is great for if you have hair loss or thinning too.
Vitamin C helps your body to better absorb iron and make collagen, which in turn helps with hair growth.
This one was a bit shocking to me I did not know that Red bell peppers packed so much vitamin C.
LENTILS
Lentils has actually become a favorite of mines more recently, I did not like it at all as a kid, but I’m finding when made the right way it can be really delicious.
Anyways lentils are full of protein, biotin, zinc, iron and folic acid. Folic acid is really important for hair growth. Folic acid restores the health of red blook cells, which help supply your hair skin and body with oxygen.
And like discussed before protein, biotin, zinc and iron are also really important to prevent hair loss. And to have an overall healthy body.
KIMCHI
This is something that I learned about a few years ago when I went to a restaurant and they had this as a side dish.
I loved it! And it went so amazing with everything else that we had, it wasn’t until a while later that I learned with it was and how to make it myself.
And even after all of that I didn’t realize that it could help with hair loss until recently.
Kimchi is a fermented Korean side dish. Fermented foods are amazing for gut health. Read my post about gut health here.
But when you improve your gut health this helps to improve your body’s overall health.
