AVOID OR USE LESS HEAT ON YOUR HAIR
If your use to styling your hair with heat tools this is something you want to do less of. Heat is super damaging to your hair.
The best thing to do is avoid it as much as you can and trying doing some other hair styles that’s not too damaging for your hair.
Click here for a list of heatless Summer hairstyles.
I know avoiding heat is not always optimal so if you can try to use it less and when you do use heat, use a heat protectant. This helps protect your hair from damage.
One of my favorite heat protectant that doesn’t leave your hair greasy is the TRESemmè Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray.
Also adding a leave in conditioner to your hair before the heat protectant and styling adds moisture to you hair. One that works really well with the TRESemme heat protectant is the Marc Anthony Grow Long Leave In Conditioner With Caffeine & Ginseng.
WASH YOUR HAIR LESS
Washing your hair too much can cause it to dry out, so in the Summer you may want to avoid excessive washing and maybe try using some products to refresh your hair.
For instance get a good dry shampoo that can help remove excess oils from your scalp to prevent your hair from looking greasy.
This can help you push back your wash day. Also you can try some hairstyles that will look good with your hair at any condition. See above hairstyles.
With this you can also start slow for instance instead of washing your hair everyday maybe try 2-3 times a week and then after a while of that try once a week.
SUNSCREEN FOR YOUR HAIR
Did you that there was sunscreen for your hair? Lol me either. I had no idea that our hair needed protecting from the sun.
But our hair in in direct contact with the sun on a daily basis in the summer and since the sun is so hot in the summer protecting your hair with sunscreen is important.
There are many products that help filter the UV rays from your hair.
Here are some good ones:
COOLA SCALP & HAIR MIST ORGANIC SUNSCREEN SPF 30
AVEDA SUN CARE PROTECTIVE HAIR VEIL
If you don’t want to add these products to your hair you can also cover your hair with a wide brimmed hat. This not only protects your hair but your skin too.
CONDITION YOUR HAIR
Conditioning your hair is very important anytime of the year but in the Summer you want to make sure you give yourself a deep conditioning at least once a week.
Click here for some really awesome deep conditioners. These products will leave your hair softer, smoother and shinier.
While deep conditioning your hair once a week is great, switching to a more hydrating shampoo and conditioner is also a great addition to your haircare routine.

NO MORE SWIMMERS HAIR
If you like swimming during the Summer then you know what chlorine can do to your hair. And how damaging it can be. Or if you have blond hair you know it can turn your tresses a greenish color.
Or if you like going to the beach, the salt water can be drying to your hair too.
Well there are some ways to combat that. First wetting your hair with cold fresh water can help. This will help your hair absorb less of the chlorine filled water or salt water.
Also adding a leaving in conditioner like the Marc Anthony’s Grow Long Leave In Conditioner With Caffeine and Ginseng , adds a layer of protection to your hair to stop it from absorbing chlorine or salt water.
Rinsing your hair with cold fresh water after the pool or beach also helps.
HOT OIL TREATMENTS
Hot oil treatments are amazing for your hair pretty much anytime of the year, but they can be super beneficial in the summer if your hair is dry and dull.
I love hot oil treatments and how soft, smooth and shiny my hair is after them. They make such a difference in my haircare routine, so much so that when I don’t use it I can see that my hair doesn’t look nearly as healthy.
Check out my step by step guide on how to do a hot oil treatment at home. And if your not interested in making your own hot oil treatment, here’s a post on hot oil treatments you can get at the store.
HAIR OILS
Now this is different from hot oil treatments because these are products that are specifically made to apply to your hair after washing and before styling.
These products help with frizz, add shine, and make your hair smooth and soft.
And these oils are also specially formulated to not make your hair too greasy, well as long as you use the right amount. A little bit goes a long way in this instances.
Here are some of my favorites:
BUMBLE AND BUMBLE HAIRDRESSER’S INVISIBLE OIL
CAVIAR ANTI-AGING SMOOTHING ANTI-FRIZZ NOURISHING OIL (ALTERNA HAIRCARE)
WOW ONION BLACK SEED HAIR OIL (I promise it doesn’t smell like onions at all)
GISOU HONEY INFUSED HAIR OIL (My new favorite)
Some that I really want to try: (as soon as I can justify the costs 😂)
RANAVAT MIGHT MAJESTY HAIR SERUM
