WHAT IS ACNE SCARRING?
Acne scarring is when you get a pimple and your left with a mark after its gone. These marks are usually darker than your skin tone. Which makes it really noticeable.
Which is not really something you want on your face. Especially if you’ve had a lot of acne.
Getting rid of acne scarring can be difficult and take a lot of work, it also took me a lot of trial and error to figure out what worked.
Here are some of the products and methods that helps get rid of acne scarring.
Hopefully one of these methods will help you.
HAVING A ROUTINE
Having a routine is important for having great skin and for helping treat your skin ailments.
A routine can treat acne, acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles and help your skin look smooth and glowy.
Here’s a simple skincare routine that you can follow.
SALICYLIC ACID
Salicylic acid is great for acne prone skin. It not only helps with acne but also with inflammation and redness. Salicylic acid also helps unclog pores which helps reduce acne.
This acid can be found in some of your skincare products and is gently enough to be used daily.
Here are some products with Salicylic acid:
BIORE DEEP CHARCOAL OIL FREE FACE WASH
PAULA’S CHOICE SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA LIQUID EXFOLIANT
VITAMIN C
Vitamin C is great for reducing dark spots. It has a brightening agent that is the reason it reduces dark spots.
Vitamin C is also help your skin to produce collagen that helps with fine lines and wrinkles. Collagen also helps your skin look and feel hydrated.
Here are some great Vitamin C:
THE ORDINARY ASCORBIC ACID 8% + ALPHA ARBUTIN 2%
iS CLINICAL SUPER SERUM ADVANCE PLUS
SUNDAY RILEY C.E.O 15% VITAMIN C BRIGHTENING SERUM
PAULA’S CHOICE C15 SUPER BOOSTER
AHA’S & BHA’S
AHA is short for alpha hydroxy acid, which is a water soluble compound that is usually derived from fruits and plants.
Some known AHA’s are glycolic and lactic acid. These acids help exfoliate the top layer of skin.
The difference between glycolic acid and lactic acid is that one is gentler than the other. Lactic acid is more gentle on the skin than glycolic acid.
BHA is short for beta hydroxy acid which is an oil soluble compound. Which means that it can be more easily absorbed into oily skin.
Salicylic acid is an example of a BHA, and salicylic acids job is to break down the congestion in your skin to help get rid of acne.
Some AHA & BHA products:
THE ORDINARY AHA 30% + BHA 2% EXFOLIATING PEELING SOLUTION
KATE SOMERVILLE EXFOLIKATE INTENSIVE PORE EXFOLIATING TREATMENT
CHEMICAL PEELS
This is actually something that I would recommend you go to a professional for as this can be very damaging if done incorrectly.
There are some at home peels that you can use today but I would be very careful when using them. For instance using the patch test method to make sure your skin is not reactive to the product.
The reason that peels are great for your skin is because it removes the top layer of your skin to reveal healthy glowing skin.
This is great for removing dark spots, it’s almost like and exfoliant but stronger.
LACTIC ACID
Lactic acid if used consistently and correctly can help to get rid of pigmentation, improve skin texture and appearance.
This is another acid that can be used to help brighten the skin and remove dark spots, see above AHA & BHA for lactic acid.
Lactic acid helps to exfoliate the top layer of your skin which is why it can help the appearance, texture and dark spots on your skin.
Here are some Lactic acids:
THE ORIDNARY LACTIC ACID 10% + HA 2% EXFOLIATING SERUM
DRUNK ELEPHANT PROTINI POWERPEPTIDE RESURFACING SERUM
BIOSSANCE SQUALANE + 10% LACTIC ACID RESURFACING NIGHT SERUM
RETINOLS
Retinols are vitamin A, that is helpful for fading dark spots, because it increases cell turn over rate.
Retinoids are usually prescribed by your doctor, but today there are retinols are the market that you can buy over the counter.
Now these may not be as strong as one you get from the doctor but the can be effective if used consistently.
Retinols are also great for fine lines and wrinkles.
Here are some retinol products:
SUNDAY RILEY A+ HIGH DOSE RETINOL SERUM
THE ORDINARY GRANACTIVE RETINOID 2% EMULSION
LA-ROCHE-POSAY RETINOL FACE SERUM WITH VITAMIN B3
LED LIGHT THERAPY
LED Light Therapy is something that I have learned about in the last few years and is something that can really help with acne and dark spots.
This is something I was introduced to by my esthetician and I wasn’t sure that I fully believed at the time.
But then I went home and did some research and found that light therapy does help with acne, dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles. It just depends on the color light that you use.
Here are some face masks with LED therapy that you can use at home:
LED FACE MASK LIGHT THERAPY HOME SKINCARE MASK
PURE DAILY CARE LUMA 4 IN 1 SKIN THERAPY WAND
LED LIGHT 3 COLOR THERAPY SKIN R-EJUVINATION
SUNSCREEN
Sunscreen is so important for your skin. Not only for dark spots but to prevent skin cancers.
You may not think that sunscreen is that important but skin cancer is a real thing and something that we all should take more seriously.
Also not wearing your sunscreen can cause age spots which is like dark spots on your skin. It also prevents your dark spots from getting darker.
And it protects your skin from the sun after the products you may have used the night before. Some of these products can make your skin very sensitive to sunlight.
Here are some sunscreens:
ELTA MD BROAD SPECTRUM SPF 46 TINTED (MY FAVORITE)
SHISEIDO ULTIMATE SUN PROTECTOR LOTION SPF 50+
SHISEIDO URBAN ENVIRONMENT OIL-FREE SUNSCREEN BROAD SPECTRUM SPF 42
