Do you want soft smooth skin? If so you have to check out these 5 DIY body scrub recipes.
Body scrubs are great for exfoliation. Exfoliating your skin is important because you get rid of the top layer of dead skin, so your skin can look healthier, brighter and glowy.
Some studies have even said that exfoliating your skin can stimulate collagen production. Which will help you skin look younger and healthier.

How Often Should Scrubs Be Use?
Exfoliating can be rough on the skin so you don’t want to over do it and make your skin tender.
You can exfoliate once a week if you have sensitive skin and don’t want to irritate it.
But if your skin is not easily irritated then you can exfoliate 2-3 times a week.
I can exfoliate 2-3 times a week with no issues, but you want to test it out and make sure your skin can handle.
I really love exfoliating, it makes me feel like I’m at the spa and having a treatment and then my skin looks amazing afterwards.
Sugar Scrub
Sugar scrubs are awesome! They combine things that you have in your kitchen and are so easy to make and use.
Ingredients:
- Sugar (any type will work)
- Oil (you pick)
- Essential oils
These ingredients are prefect and very versatile. I love using brown sugar, coconut oil and lavender essential oil.
The versatile thing about this recipe is that you can switch out the ingredients based on what you have in the house.
So for example if you have white sugar use that or olive oil or a different essential oil.
Use what you have and still make the scrub. This is perfect for soft smooth skin.
Coffee Scrub
This scrub is great coffee is loaded with antioxidants which are really great for the skin.
Coffee grinds are a bit softer than sugar grains, which is great if you have sensitive skin.
Ingredients:
- Coffee grinds
- Oil
- Essential oil (optional)
- Sugar (optional)
This recipe like the one before is easily customizable, any oil can be used depending on what you have at home.
Essential oil can be used if you want and if you would like and serious scrub then you can add some sugar to it.

Papaya Scrub
Papaya is great for exfoliating the skin. Its also great for exfoliating your face.
Papaya contains and enzyme that help with exfoliation and decreasing inflammation.
Ingredients:
- Papaya
- Sugar
- Oil
Since the papaya is a wet ingredient you want to be careful when adding the oil too much will make the sugar too soft and it wont exfoliate your skin.
Add a little at a time until the consistency is to your liking.
Salt Scrub
No sugar? No problem salt can be used for scrubs too! For salt scrubs you want to choose finely ground salt and not coarse salt.
This can be painful. And if you have sea salt or Himalayan salt even better.
Ingredients:
- Salt (preferably sea salt or Himalayan salt)
- Oil
- Essential oil
The great thing about all of these scrubs is that they are super easy to make and some ingredients can be excluded if you don’t have it.

Honey Sugar Scrub
Sugar and honey scrubs are amazing because not only is you skin being exfoliated by the sugar but it is being moisturized by the honey.
Honey also has anti-bacterial properties.
Ingredients:
- Honey
- Sugar
- Oil
Since honey is also a wet ingredient be careful when adding the oil. Again you don’t want the sugar to get too soft and melt.
Final Thoughts
Winter time is perfect for exfoliating your skin especially if you live in a climate that gets cold.
The cold air can really dry out your skin, which makes exfoliating 1-3 times a week great. It really helps to leave you with smoother, brighter skin.
Exfoliating is also great for applying products afterwards. The products you use after exfoliation really penetrate into the skin.
