I have been struggling to find a haircare routine for damaged color treated hair.
Lately my hair has changed and I’ve had a lot more shedding than usually and its been concerning to me.
I decided to return to some of my holy grail products and create a routine that works for me.
Also I needed a simple routine that wouldn’t be hard to do or take too much time.
So I purchased some products and created a routine that I’ll be sharing with you.

Pre-Wash Treatment
Before washing my hair I have been trying to do one of two treatments. These treatments are hot oil treatments but with different oils.
If I have a little extra time I’ll warm either coconut oil or castor oil and massage it from the roots to the ends, place a plastic cap or bag over my hair.
Wait for 30 mins to an hour then wash.
But if I’m really lazy or tired I will just apply room temperature coconut oil to my hair starting at the roots massaging it in, then bring it all the way to my ends.
Leave in for 30 mins to an hour, then wash.
Hot oil or oil treatments are really great for your hair, you can read more about it here.
This can be done 1-2 times a week.
Shampoo & Conditioner
So up until recently I was using a couple of different shampoos & conditioners that I feel did nothing for my hair. (stay tuned for that review)
I decided to go back to my holy grail shampoos & conditioners that worked really well for me in the past.
Now you may be thinking why would I ever change shampoos & conditioners if I found some that work really well for me?
Well the answer is that my hair would get used to it and it wouldn’t really do much for me so I would have to switch for some time and then come back.
But I always knew when I came back it would work amazingly.
So the two that I purchased were the Dove Nutritive Solutions Intensive Repair Shampoo & Conditioner and Pantene Beautiful Lengths For Strong Hair Shampoo & Conditioner.
Dove has been a brand that I have loved since I was 16 so I always return to this product.
And I always notice that this set strengthens my hair and helps with damage & breakage.
Pantene shampoos & conditioners are usually not for me but the beautiful lengths are absolutely for me.
I found out about this set a few years back when I cut my hair and I was looking for any way to grow it back quickly.
It really helped with breakage and damage which in turn helped to grow my hair.
I am not really looking to grow my hair as it’s really long but I am looking for something to strengthen my hair.
So I alternate between these two shampoos & conditioners, I’ll use one for a couple of washes then switch.

Deep Conditioning
Deep conditioning is really great for damaged hair. I always love how my hair feels after a deep condition.
I purchased 2 deep conditioners which were Macadamia Professional Natural Oil Deep Repair Hair Masque and Shea Moisture Protein Treatment With Manuka Honey & Yogurt.
The macadamia masque is mainly for moisture and because it specifically targets damaged hair. This leaves your hair so smooth, silky & lightweight.
This is one of my favorites. It is more on the pricey side but you get so much use from one jar that it’s so worth it.
The Shea Moisture mask is also one I’ve been using for sometime. Can you tell I like coloring & bleaching my hair?
This mask is really great because it’s a protein mask that also adds moisture to the hair which isn’t always the case.
A lot of protein masks dry out your hair and you have to be super careful after the treatment.
But not this one it adds much need moisture along with protein (protein is essential because our hair is made of a protein called keratin)
With these conditioners I also alternate depending on what I think my hair really needs at the time.

This can be done 1-2 weeks, depending on the condition of your hair.

Leave In Conditioner
Leave in conditioner has definitely been a must for me, especially since my hair grew longer.
My hair gets tangled really quickly and has been really dry, I need a leave in conditioner that helps moisturize my hair while helping with the tangles.
The one I purchased is also one I’ve been using for a while. This one I found when I was looking for hair growth products.
It’s the Marc Anthony Grow Long Leave-In Conditioner With Caffeine & Ginseng.
I love this product because it makes brushing so much easier, adds moisture and helps with styling. This leaves my hair so soft & smooth.

This can be used after every wash.

Heat Protectant
So heat protectant is not something I use all the time because I am trying to reduce the damage from my hair. That means no heat.
But there are times when I will probably have to style my hair for an event or something.
For these times I make sure I am using a heat protectant to help reduce the damage.
The one I love and have been using forever is the Tresemme Thermal Creations Leave-In Heat Tamer For Hair Heat Protection.
This is one of the best and most cost efficient heat protectants that I have ever used.
I have tried others that cost more money but they were way too heavy for my hair.
Which made styling hell. This product is lightweight but protects.

These products have all been good to me and they are very reasonably priced. It’s definitely worth a try.
