One of the ways I love taking care of my hair is using masks, that’s why I decided to create a  list of 10 DIY masks for damaged color treated hair.

I love using store bought masks for hair treatments but I also love using a DIY mask when I feel like my hair really needs it.

DIY masks are great for treating many different hair conditions.

Here are 10 great masks that you should try.

pin this for later

10 DIY HAIR MASK FOR DAMAGED HAIR

Detox Apple Cider Vinegar + Aztec Healing Clay Mask

This mask is  great for adding moisture to your hair. It’s also good for removing excess oil and dirt from your scalp.

The detox mask is great if you have dry damaged hair and also if your hair is brittle.

If your hair is on the drier, more brittle side you’ll want to use this mask a couple times a week. If not then you can use it once a week.

How to make:

1-2 tablespoons of bentonite clay

1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar

(Ingredients depend on hair length & thickness)

Then slowly add in the apple cider vinegar while mixing. You want the mask to be easy to apply to the hair. Not too thick but not too watery.

Then apply this mask from root to ends. Make sure your hair is evenly coated. This mask should only be left on for 5-10 mins at a time.

Bentonite clay can be drying if left on too long.

Coconut Oil + Honey + Avocado Mask

Coconut oil is a very popular oil especially for hair treatments, this is because there  are so many benefits from using it.

Some of those benefits are that it can help prevent the loss of protein in the hair, the structure of the coconut oil makes it great for absorbing into the hair easily, and it helps prevent damage when using before or after washes.

Honey is also a really great ingredient for hair masks. Honey is an emollient & a humectant which are great for moisturizing the hair.

Emollients smooth the hair follicles adding shine to dull hair. Humectants help retain moisture, which is great for hair.

Avocados are a great source of biotin which is great for hair growth. It also has Omega 3 fatty acids and essential amino acids, this can help add moisture to the hair. Avocados are for damaged, dry hair.

How to make:

½-1  avocado

1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil

1-2 tablespoons of honey

These ingredients depend on the length and thickness of your hair. Mix all ingredients really well (or blend) then apply from roots to the end. Leave in for 30-40 mins and then wash out with shampoo & conditioner.

Eggs + Honey Mask

Eggs are great for your hair because they contain vitamins a & e, biotin folate and a small but significant amount of iron.

Applying an egg to your scalp can infuse your hair with vitamins that will promote new hair growth to be stronger with less breakage & shedding. This helps your hair fall less which makes the hair fuller.

And as discussed before honey is  great for the hair because of the emollient & humectant properties.

How to make:

1-2 eggs

1-2 tablespoons of honey

Again ingredients depend on the length & thickness of your hair.

After mixing the ingredients together apply from scalp to the ends, leave on for 20-30 mins and then rinse out the egg mix with cool or cold water.

You do not want to use hot or warm water when removing this egg mixture from your hair.

Coconut Oil + Castor Oil Mask

This is one of the ones I use a little more than the others. This mask has two really great components.

Coconut oil is amazing for your hair as discussed above for one of the other masks.

Castor oil is another really great oil for your hair.

It helps promote hair growth, it’s anti-inflammatory, helps promote shine & gloss and conditions and moisturizes the hair.

Castor oil has so many other benefits too.

How to make:

1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil

1-2 tablespoons of castor oil

Depends on length & thickness of hair

Mix oils together, you can warm oil slightly to make mixing easier. Apply from the scalp to the ends. Leave in for 30 mins to an hour then wash out with shampoo & conditioner.

Apple Cider Vinegar + Coconut Oil + Honey Mask

Apple cider vinegar has so many uses but it can be used in hair masks. It strengthens the hair, while improving hair luster by lowering the pH.

Apple cider vinegar is antimicrobial which can help with any scalp problem.

Coconut oil & Honey is really amazing for your hair as discussed.

How to make:

1-2 tablespoons coconut oil

1-2 tablespoons of honey

Add apple cider vinegar to make a paste like consistency

Mix all ingredients together really well and apple from the scalp to the ends. Leave in for 20-30 minutes then wash out with shampoo & conditioner.

Aloe Vera + Castor Oil + Vitamin E

Aloe vera is an amazing plant for your hair. It helps with itchy scalp, deep cleans oily hair, strengthens & repairs hair strain & can promote hair growth.

Castor oil also can promote hair growth and strengthen the hair follicles.

Vitamin E oil helps hair growth, increases hair strength & boosts scalp health.

How to make:

Aloe vera gel from the leave of a plant

1-2 tablespoons of castor oil

2 vitamin e capsules

Blend all ingredients in a blender. Apply from scalp to the ends and leave on for 30-45 mins. Then wash out with shampoo & conditioner.

Yogurt + Honey Mask

Yogurt is full of protein which is really good for  hair growth & health. It also has lactic acid which is good for cleansing the dead skin cells from the scalp to help with growth.

Honey is great for moisture, shiny and hair health.

How to make:

1-2 tablespoons of yogurt

1-2 tablespoons of honey

Mix together really well and apply to the hair from the scalp to the ends. Leave in for 20-30 mins and wash out with shampoo & conditioner.

Avocado + Egg + Olive Oil

Avocados have many nutrients that are great for the hair and help to strengthen and heal the hair of damage.

Eggs also have many nutrients that are great for your hair. It helps promote hair growth and fullness.

Olive oil helps to condition your hair and gives your hair shine. This oil can help hair retain moisture, prevent damage and can reduce breakage.

Olive oil is packed with nutrients and really penetrates the hair.

How to make:

½-1 avocado
