What Is A Hot Oil Treatment?
DIY Hot oil treatments are treatments that are used to restore and repair the condition of your hair.
This is a treatment that can be used on all hair types.
For dry, damaged, dull hair that is prone to breakage, using a hot oil treatment can be very beneficial.
There are many hot oil treatments out there that you can buy or you can DIY.
I really like using an oil of my choice.
I will use a store bought hot oil treatment from time to time.
Here are some DIY hot oils treatments and heres how to do a hot oil treatment:

Step 1: Finding The Right Oil.
This is an important step, you want to find an oil that works for your hair.
Also you want to find a oil that will do what you want it to do to your hair.
For example if you wanted shiner hair, find an oil that helps get you shiny hair.
Some oils that I love using are coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil and olive oil.
My go to is usually coconut, this one has so many benefits its like an all purpose oil.

Coconut Oil
The Coconut oil helps with scalp health.
Its anti-fungal, its helps with dandruff.
It moisturizes the hair, adds shine, helps grow hair.
Softens the hair, and helps with breakage and split ends.
Almond Oil
The Almond oil helps grow hair, treat dandruff.
Reduce split ends, make hair shiny and soft.
And helps with scalp inflammation.
Castor Oil
Castor oil promotes a healthy scalp.
Helps grow your hair longer and thicker.
Moisturize/hydrates hair.
It’s anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory.
Helps repair hair, and helps with split end and hair loss.
One that is really good is the Jamaican Black Castor Oil
Olive Oil
Olive oil helps maintain scalp and hair health.
Prevents the hair from damage.
Strengthens hair, makes hair more manageable.
And nourishes and conditions the hair.
I usually use one of the four at a time.
I’ve found mixing oils don’t work as well for my hair.
But everyone’s different this may work well for a lot of other people out there.
Grapeseed Oil
Grapeseed oil is also a great oil for restoring your hair.
This oil adds shine to your hair, doesn’t weigh your hair down & seals in moisture.
It can also help with dandruff & is great for scalp massages.
The great thing about grapeseed oil is that you can use it for a hot oil treatment but you can also use it after you wash your hair on the ends.
It’s light enough that you can use it on a daily basis without your hair looking too oily.

Step 2: Heating The Oil
There are many ways that to heat the oil.
One way is to put it in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds.
I don’t really use this method.
Another way is to boil some water and then put the oil in a bowl (that’s not plastic).
And then I place the bowl into the hot water and let sit for a few minutes.
The last way is to run hot water in the container that the oil is on for a few minutes.
Any way that you choose to heat the oil be very careful that it’s not too hot before applying it to your hair and scalp.

Step 3: Preparing The Oil
You can apply the oil to dry hair that hasn’t been washed or you can wet your hair first.
Some people even shampoo their hair before applying the treatment.
I like to apply to dry, unwashed hair.

Step 4 Applying The Oil
Make sure the oil is not too hot before you start applying it to your scalp.
Starting at the roots I massage the oil in.
Then I continue to coat all of my hair until it’s saturated. I move on to the rest of my hair.
Making sure all of my hair is coated in the oil.
After applying the oil I cover it up with either a plastic bag or a shower cap to heat it up.
Some people sit under the hair dryer to really have the oil penetrate the hair.
I usually leave the oil on for about an hour. You can leave it on anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours.

Step 4: Washing The Oil Out
When washing the oil out of my hair, I make sure to use a shampoo that gets really foamy.
This helps to remove the oils better.
Coconut oil, almond oil and olive oil are a little easier to get out than castor oil.
Castor oil is a very thick oil and it may take more than one wash to get it out.
I can usually wash out the coconut oil with one wash.
But sometimes it still feels a bit greasy and I’ll shampoo again.
Then I condition regularly after that and then I can style my hair as usual.

After Using Hot Oil Treatment
After the treatment you may not feel like you notice a huge change in your hair.
But this is something that you have to be consistent with.
For the best results use this treatment at least once a week.
When my hair was extremely damaged I used this treatment before every wash.
At that time I was washing my hair about twice times a week.
So I would do this DIY hot oil treatment twice a week.

Results
After a couple of months I really noticed that my hair was a lot healthier than before.
The damage from coloring and bleaching was slowly starting to go away.
DIY Hot Oil Treatments have really made a difference in my hair care routine.
