What are hair oils? Right, because there are so many oils out there and its hard to know which ones to use for what.
In this post I will explain what these oils are used for and how to use them for maximum results.
Also this post will give up some oils that work really well and that will make a difference in your haircare routine.
The oils that will be discussed in this post are all oils that I have tried and used for sometime, there may be one or two that are new but they have worked so well so far I had to include them here.

WHAT ARE HAIR OILS?
So what are hair oils right? Well this can mean a couple of different things like oils you put in your hair pre wash or oils that your can use after you wash your hair.
The ones that I will be discussing in this post are the oils that you use after you wash & condition your hair and you want to give it some shine or moisture.
These are usually lightweight oils that hydrate, add shine and stop frizz. These oils can also be used in combination with deep conditioners for a treatment to give it an extra boost.
But they are mainly for after washing your hair.
WHY DO YOU NEED A HAIR OIL?
Hair oils are great to give your hair that extra boost of shine, smoothness and moisture.
Most of use have an issue with our hair whether it be dry, damaged, breakage or something of that nature.
These oils help to nourish your hair so that these ailments can go away over time with continued used.
Finding hair oils has really made a difference in my hair especially because my hair was damaged and dry from excessive coloring and bleaching.
HOW TO USE HAIR OILS?
There are a couple of different ways that you can use hair oils and here they are:
- Your can use in as a pre-wash treatment. Add a few drops to a deep conditioner of your choice apply to your hair and cover. Let it stay for 30 mins to an hour then was as usual.
- You can use it the same way adding a few drops to your conditioner and applying it after shampooing to wet hair. Let sit for 15-30 minutes or long if you have the time. Then rinse out.
- You can apply a few drops to damp hair, applying from the mid-shaft to the ends and concentrating on the ends. After that whatever’s left on your hands can be applied to the rest of your hair. Then style as usual
- You can apply to dry hair concentrating on the midshaft to the ends and really focusing on the ends.
These are some of the oils that have worked really well and the prices range from cheap to more pricy but each one of these oils are so worth it.
CAVIAR ANTI-AGING OMEGA + ANTI-FRIZZ NOURiSHING OIL
The caviar anti-aging omega + frizz nourishing oil is by Alterna and I bought this a few years ago and still have some left. This is a bit thicker than the other oils that I’ll be discussing but not too much thicker.
The point of this is that a little goes a lonnnggg way. Although this oil is expensive its lasts so long you’ll definitely get your money’s worth.
Since this oil is so old it was revamped and now called CAVIAR Anti-Aging Smoothing Anti-Frizz Nourishing Oil. And they have changed the packaging, but its pretty much the same oil.
This oils smells really good but isn’t too strong or perfume like. It just has a nice clean scent.
I notice when I use this oil my hair is smoother even without heat styling and less frizzy. Also it looks moisturized and not dry and dead.
BUMBLE AND BUMBLE HAIRDRESSERS INVISIBLE OIL
Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s invisible oil is a very lightweight thin oil, it really is as the name calls it invisible oil. This perfect for that extra shine and can also be used with other oils.
When I first purchased this oil I got it with the caviar anti-aging omega + anti-frizz nourishing oil.
And I ended up using it together, 1 small pump of the anti-frizz and about 1-2 pumps of this invisible oil and it was the perfect mixture for my hair.
This is so thin that it can be used by itself daily for shine and moisture.
MADAM CJ WALKER BEAUTY CULTURE COCONUT OIL
Madam CJ Walker’s beauty culture coconut oil is a favorite of mines, I got this years ago too. Unfortunately it was discontinued and I haven’t been able to find it or a new formula from the brand. So I’m really sad about that.
This is also a lightweight oil but you have to be careful with it because it can make you hair oily really quickly.
So just as the rest of these oils a little goes a long way. This one is really great one for shine and moisture.
It has a really nice light vanilla scent. I love scents in hair products so this doesn’t bother me, but the good about the scent is that it goes away after a little while.
SHEA MOISTURE 100% PURE ARGAN OIL
Shea Moisture 100% Pure Argan oil is a newer one that I recently started using, it not expensive and it’s a really good oil. I don’t love the scent of this one so I added some lavender essential oil to it and that helped a little.
So even thought the scent wasn’t great it doesn’t smell bad in your hair. This oil is great for moisturizing your hair. It’s lightweight and doesn’t make your hair oily.
It also penetrates the hair well, so it doesn’t just sit on top of your hair. Another good thing is that since this is pure argan oil it can be used on you body as well as your hair.
RADHA ROSEHIP SEED OIL
This is 100% pure and natural rosehip seed oil. I really bought this for my face and skincare routine but its great for your hair too.
It’s also lightweight and not greasy or sticky. This is so important to me because I don’t like when my hair is weighed down by oils or anything really.
This is great for moisture and it gives your hair a bit of shine too. It’s also really inexpensive and you can get it on Amazon.

GISOU HONEY INFUSED HAIR OIL
Gisou honey infused hair oil is a new oil that I have added to my haircare routine. I purchased it after seeing amazing reviews online.
I have a full review on this product, but this has been a great addition to my routine. It’s also a lightweight oil that isn’t greasy or sticky.
It moisturizes and tames your hair while making it smooth. It’s on the more expensive side but is worth the money.
As with all the others a little goes a long way, which also makes the oil last longer.
It also helps a lot with frizz, which is major to me since I have a lot of it.
WOW ONION BLACK SEED HAIR OIL
Wow onion black seed hair oil is also a bit newer to me, I’ve had it for a few months an I really like it. It’s thicker than the rest of these oils.
But its not sticky, which is great for application. Since it is thicker you want to use a smaller amount than the rest.
This is a great oil for moisture and shine. At first it may seem like the oil is just sitting on top of your hair but it seeps in and really helps your hair to look healthier.

All of these oils are amazing, lightweight and work really well. They also work with different hair types.
